It takes proper planning, patience and persistence but the results are worth it in the end. In today’s post, I’ll be sharing the best affordable SEO tips to help grow your blog.
Getting your blog on to the first page of Google should be at the top of your checklist. Good search rankings can direct more relevant traffic to your website, not just now but for years to come. When someone searches on Google for a particular topic, you want your content to come out on top. There’s a lot of different tactics you can use to achieve this, so I thought I’d run you through some of my personal favourites:
Get clued up about keywords. Whatever your blog post is about, it will need keywords in order to rank for related terms. Ask yourself, what do I want to be found for on Google? Who do I want to read my blogs? What are people searching for online? These are the types of questions that you need to ask before hitting ‘publish’. These keywords need to be included in your article, meta content and URL of the page. Don’t go crazy, though. Google likes to see a natural progression of keywords, so be careful not to include them in every sentence. Here are two example sentences:
Sentence #1: In this article, we’ll discuss what makes a successful beauty blogger with helpful tips and tricks on growing a beauty blog from scratch.
Sentence #2: Do you want to become a beauty blogger? In this post, we’ll explain how to start a beauty blog with tips and advice from the best beauty blogger in the business.
Firstly, can you guess the keyword? And secondly, which sentence is natural, and which is quite obviously, not?
Another way to show Google that your blog is full of useful information is to create a web of links from one blog post to another. This is called interlinking and is an extremely useful SEO tactic when it comes to blogging.
The easiest way to do this is when writing a new blog post, to relate the topic you are discussing with a link to a previous post. And don’t just use the sentence “read more about this here” with “here” as the linked word. Use keywords from that past post as your link. For example, you could write “find a career in digital marketing”, with the words “career in digital marketing” as the link. See what we did there?
The more links pointing from authorative websites to yours, the better you will rank on Google. You are positioning yourself as a trusted blogger. No one is going to rank to a website they don’t trust – would you? There are many ways you can achieve great backlinks for your blog:
– Collaborating with other bloggers
– Adding images to your social networks that are linked to your blog
– Commenting on other blogs (be genuine!)
– Interviews on relevant websites linking to your blog
The more social you are online, the more likely people are to visit your blog and trust your advice. You may notice people comment on your blog posts with a link back to their website – this is spammy content and should be removed.
The final affordable SEO tip of the day is to ensure you are naming your photos with relevant keywords. There are several ways to do this and it all starts with saved images. I have saved the above image with the file name searching-for-affordable-seo-tips and set it as the featured image. The second thing to consider when uploading your image is the alt tags and descriptions, which can be changed by clicking edit on your image. The alt tag is the most important field as it explains to Google (a text reader) what the image is all about.
Finally, make sure your photos aren’t too large as this will affect your load speed. If your blog takes longer than a couple of seconds to load, then people won’t stick around to read your content.
