Holiday Season is here! Had enough of paying high hotel prices? Here are just a few tricks for booking accommodation on a shoestring next time you travel somewhere.
Book early or book last minute
How far in advance you book a room can make a big difference. Many hotels offer early bird deals to those that book over nine months ahead – early birds are also more likely to get free upgrade to luxury suites if they’re empty at the time. Booking last minute can also sometimes get you a good deal. This isn’t usually the case with city accommodation, however when it comes to hotels in holiday resorts you can usually find huge discounts from booking last minute – this is usually because there’s been a cancellation and hotels want to refill these rooms quickly.
Consider the location
The location of a hotel can also greatly affect the price. You’ll pay extra for good views or for having attractions on your doorstep. Try looking for somewhere a little off the beaten track – you may have to walk a little longer to get to attractions but it could be worth the cheaper rates. For example, you’re better off buying a hotel on the outskirts of London than in the center.
Try alternative accommodation
A hotel isn’t the only form of accommodation. B&bs can be a cheaper option in which you’re still getting many of the same luxuries – if you’re planning a budget weekend away in Yorkshire, a b&b in Harrogate could be all you need. Hostels are an even cheaper option for those that are only interested in having a bed for the night – you may have to share a room with strangers, although there are hostels with private rooms. Finally, you could consider a campsite. Staying in a tent is usually the most affordable option, but some campsites may offer other options such as wooden cabins, on-site fixed caravans and glamping tents giving you access to a bed and electricity.
Join hotel membership clubs
There are many hotel chains across the country (and indeed across the world) that you can become a member of. In exchange for a small membership fee, you can get discounts to hotels everywhere. Some membership clubs have a point system in which you collect points during your membership eventually allowing you to spend these points on a free night in a hotel of your choice. Such schemes can be ideal for people that are always on the move and constantly staying in hotels.
Shop for coupons online
You’ll find plenty of coupon sites offering massive discounts on hotels. If you’re hoping to plan a last minute getaway but haven’t decided where you want to go yet, these coupons sites can be a great option. Many coupons are only advertised for a limited time so you need to jump on these deals quickly in order to secure yourself a room.
